Afghanistan-Pakistan quake: Rescue efforts expanded

Rescue efforts have been stepped up to help the victims of a magnitude 7.5 earthquake which hit northern Afghanistan and Pakistan yesterday, killing more than 300 people.

According to official reports from the two countries, the total death toll which stood at 336 had at least 253 people killed in Pakistan and not less than 83 more killed in Afghanistan with more than 2,000 people injured.

Pakistani disaster management official, Latif Rehman, however disclosed that Pakistan’s military and civilian authorities have taken up dispatch of several helicopters to affected areas to assess damage and run rescue operations.
