The Akwa Ibom state House of Assembly has passed into law the Akwa Ibom state Utility Infrastructure Management Agency bill.
Speaking yesterday after the bill was passed into law, Speaker Onofiok Luke said the law is aimed at establishing a well-structured management system for sustainability, efficiency and accountability in the use and management of utility infrastructure within the state.
Barrister Luke who commended his colleagues for supporting the bill sponsored by the House Leader, Udo Kierian, and for ensuring it’s passage, said that the implementation would consolidate the infrastructure growth agenda of Governor Udom Emmanuel’s administration.
According to him, the need for the arises from the need to provide checks and ensure quality control in terms of ownership and operations of utility infrastructure in line with international best practices, while secondarily boosting the internally generated revenue of the state.
