Akwa Ibom State begins plans to participate in the 2015 Nigeria National Carnival in Abuja

Akwa Ibom State government has disclosed that plans are on ground to transform the present Ibom Unity Park along Udo-Udoma Avenue into a world-class tourism village, develop the coastal beach line in Ibeno as well as raise the Inagha Fishing Festival and Boat Regatta at Itu into a yearly signature tourism event amongst others.

As part of Governor Udom Emmanuels’ plans to attract tourists and foreign investors to the state, the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Otuekong Emmanuel Ibiok said Akwa Ibom State is set to package and showcase its potentials capable of attracting both local and foreign investors especially during yearly national events to create jobs and raise the living standard of the people.

The Commissioner who announced that preparations are on-going for the 2015 Nigeria National Carnival scheduled to hold from the 21st to 24th of November this year in Abuja with the theme ‘The Creative Industry: Pivot for Economic Growth’ assured that the state will come out tops at the competition and called on Akwa Ibom people to embrace this opportunity by showcasing their goods, and talents.

On his part, the National Carnival Committee, Zonal Cordinator, south-south Zone, Victor Thompson, called on the state government, stakeholders in the culture and tourism sector to support the south-south states and ensure effective participation at the carnival

Our correspondent Oto-Obong Billy reports that the cardinal objective of the yearly event include the preservation and presentation of the rich cultural Heritage of Nigeria boosting trade and investment as well as promoting cultural tourism and showcasing Abuja as a destination of choice.
