Akwa Ibom State Executive Council approves construction of roads in Mkpat Enin and Onna local government areas.

The Akwa Ibom State Executive Council has approved a total of 11 kilometres of roads and one bridge for construction in Mkpat Enin and Onna local government areas.

The Commissioner for Information and Communications, Aniekan Umanah said this was part of the decisions taken at the weekly meeting of the Executive Council, where the Governor-in-Council, Udom Emmanuel presided.

Speaking with reporters, Umanah said a 5-kilometre Ikot Usop-Ikot Edeghe-Ikot Ekpuk road, with a 30 metres span bridge in Mkpat Enin local government area was approved for construction.

Also, the Commissioner said the 5 kilometres Mkpok-Okat Road as well as flood control and dualisation of the one kilometer Awa-Ikot Nkan road with outfall drains, were approved for construction in Onna local government area.

Council, according to Umanah, equally gave approval for the construction and remodelling of roads in Eket urban which includes Dualization of Atabong Road with an extension to hospital road by market road; Expansion and remodeling of Atabong road roundabout as well as Liverpool junction and Construction of Recreational Park at Oron Road by Grace Bill Road.

Other construction works approve for Eket are, Channelization of Eket/Oron Road/Grace Bill intersection; Grace Bill Road Pavement rehabilitation and Drainage reconstruction; Street Furniture; Street-scaping/beautification; Pedestrian foot bridges; and Water fountain at roundabouts.

The information commissioner who mentioned that Council also approved emergency works and completion of Oron urban roads and outfalls, said the Governor Emmanuel directed that some facilities at Le Meridian Ibom Hotels and Golf Resorts be upgraded, tasking the Ministry of Tourism to inspect and ensure that Hotel facilities in the State meet the required hygiene standard in view of the increasing visits by tourists and investors to the State.

In a related development, Umanah said an empowerment training in photography, videography and film production will be held for 329 youths to be drawn from all the wards in the State, noting that the training programme was in furtherance of the job creation and skills development initiative of the Governor.

On the state-wide environmental sanitation exercise billed for Saturday August 29, he mentioned that Governor Emmanuel directed all Council members and other government official to take personal interest and mobilize participation in their respective areas for the cleanliness of the State, adding that the governor also mandated executive members to work towards attracting Foreign Direct Investment to the State.
