Farmers in Akwa Ibom state have tasked the state government to diversify – from only maize, to the distribution of free hybrid crops to farmers for planting.
The farmers who took the stance at the second distribution phase of high-yield maize seedlings to farmers across Akwa Ibom, by the state government, maintained that such diversification would positively influence expected yields, thereby enabling the agricultural sector in the state enjoy double digit growth.
Correspondent Saviour Robert reports that the farmers however thanked the state government for the initiative, while also forseeing a robust agricultural dispensation in the state if the initiative is sustained.
The state government had on Thursday last week, flagged off a free hybrid maize distribution scheme to all farmers in Akwa Ibom state, to boost the goal of attaining food sufficiency in the state from next year.
