The Commissioner for Information and Communications Aniekan Umanah has commended the National Association of Nigerian Students –NANS, Akwa Ibom chapter for their initiative in maintaining peace in higher institution of learning.
Umanah gave the commendation while commenting on the contents of a communiqué issued at the end of the 2015 3rd quarter Joint Campus Action Committee meeting of the Association, held recently in Uyo.
The information boss who advised students to take advantage of the empowerment programmes introduced by Governor Udom Emmanuel, urged them to ignore critics, who take delight in unproductive criticism about government policies and learn to be law abiding as part of their civic responsibilities to government.
Similarly, the committee, according to the communiqué, warned desperate politicians not to distract Governor Emmanuel with unnecessary litigations, and frowned on calls from some quarters, for the cancellation of the April 11th polls that ushered in the new administration.
According to the communique, the committee appreciated and acknowledged the Governor for appointing the State Joint Campus Committee Chairman, Comrade Otobong Akpan as his Special Assistant on Student Matters, and assured him of their continuous support, unconditional and unflinching loyalty.
In solidarity with the five-point agenda of the Udom administration to create wealth and industrialize the state, the committee resolved to inspire the spirit of entrepreneurship, industrialization and innovations amongst Nigerian Students, by organizing Akwa Ibom Student’s Invention Convention as part of activities for their 2015 International Students Day coming up in November.
