Akwa Ibom State government is to take steps to instill entrepreneurial culture among the people with the view to tackling unemployment rate in the State.
The Commissioner for Finance, Akan Okon gave this indication in Uyo recently during a meeting with representatives of Bank of Industry who called on him in his office, noting that entrepreneurship is an essential ingredient for rapid and sustained economic growth.
The Commissioner who stated that Akwa Ibom is blessed with abundant human and natural resources, and if properly harnessed would turn the State into economic giant, pointed out that government has initiated policies and programs geared towards job creation one of which is industrialization.
In a release signed by the ministry’s information officer, Josephine Etuk, the finance boss added that government would also partner relevant agencies to grant soft loans to drive the micro, small, and medium scale enterprises, urging BOI to be a veritable partner by drawing closer to also add value to the initiative.
Earlier, one of the Zonal Representatives of the Bank of Industries, Sunkanmi Oriyomi said they were in Akwa Ibom to see how to establish business ties with the State government and disclosed that plans were underway to establish a branch of the bank in Uyo.
