IN AKWA IBOM STATE, government have been urged to reconstitute an effective tax force that will ensure that commercial drivers adhere strictly to the directive that all passengers be picked and dropped only at government approved parks in the state.
Speaking with Planet News, drivers who were seen at one of the government approved parks in Nung Oku Ibesikpo, lamented their ordeals, saying that passengers no longer patronize them as illegal parks are stationed within town and commercial drivers are also illegally picking and dropping passengers by the road sides.
The drivers who blamed poor management of the tax force as a reason for the non-compliance, however called on the government through the state Ministry of Transport, to ensure a more effective tax force that would be dedicated and will enforce the ‘No roadside-parking Policy’ in the state so as to make the parks boom again.
Our correspondent Oto-Obong Billy who was at the park, reports that most of the long distant bus unit were empty as drivers say the low patronage has driven them out of business while few passengers were also seen waiting in buses for others as the park was not as busy as a typical motor park.
