Akwa Ibom State government has advised people of the state against showing heightened fear about the Monkey Pox outbreak, assuring that necessary emergency response mechanism has been adopted to control the situation to prevent spread of the infection in the state.
Addressing a press briefing in Uyo, the state capital, the state’s Commissioner for Health, Dr. Dominic Ukpong said that information about a suspected case of the disease in the state came on 5th October, adding that about 24 suspected contacts were being monitored in the state.
Dr. Ukpong stated that adequate prevention approaches had since been activated by the state government to nip the menace in the bud.
The health commissioner who was flanked by his Information and Strategy counterpart, Charles Udoh and other stakeholders cautioned people to avoid eating bush meat in the meantime, and carry out proper hand washing and general personal hygiene as precautionary measures.
