Akwa Ibom State Governor Udom gives amnesty to repentant hoodlums

Akwa Ibom State Governor Udom Emmanuel has given amnesty to the alleged repentant hoodlums who had been terrorising Ukanafun and Etim Ekpo local government areas of the state with a pledge to rehabilitate them.

This is sequel to the disarmament of some of the hoodlums who accepted the peace process brokered by the State government, state Commissioner Of police, Adeyemi Ogunjemilusi and other security operatives.

Speaking in Ukanafun during the surrendering of arms and ammunitions by the miscreants numbering about 207, Governor Emmanuel urged them to genuinely show remorse and pray to God for forgiveness.
He further used the occasion to announce a 72 hours ultimatum to the last group still hiding to embrace the peace deal offered by the government.

Earlier the state Commissioner of police said the cultists were willing to be rehabilitated and re-integrated into the society.

Government House correspondent Jane Uwa reports that some of the hoodlums who spoke after being paraded before the Governor, gave reasons for their past actions while calling for empowerment by the government to enable them start meaningful means of livelihood.
