The Akwa Ibom state House of Assembly Committee on Public Accounts has completed a routine oversight function to the office of the accountant general of the state, Uwem Essien, where it was briefed on the progress report for the first quarter achievements and consultancy services of the accountant general’s office.
The committee, chaired by member representing Abak state constituency, Friday Iwok, after a brief stop at the accountant general’s office, took a field trip to the state’s sub-treasuries in Abak and Ikot Ekpene, to ascertain the level of progress and compliance to work there, after which it returned to the accountant general’s office to entertain remarks from its findings.
In his remarks, the accountant general, Essien appreciated the cordial relationship enjoyed between his office and the House of Assembly, stating that most of the achievements recorded is attributable to the house of assembly but however urged the committee to help deliberate on issues of gratuities at the house level in the interest of affected employees.
On his part, the committee chairman, Friday Iwok thanked the accountant general for recording commendable successes at discharging the duties of his office, especially the car loans provided for staff, but urged him to see to it that sub treasuries in the state are monitored to ensure that they are discharging their functions effectively.
Our House of Assembly Correspondent Saviour Robert reports that Iwok expressed confidence that governor Udom Emmanuel will provide funds for the offset of 2016 gratuities of affected employees.
