Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Aniekan Umanah, has described as misleading news stories in some local tabloids, describing Governor Udom Emmanuel as acting Governor.
A press release by the Assistant Director of Information, Israel Umoh, noted that the Akwa Ibom Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal, which sat in Abuja directed the Independent National Electoral Commission-INEC to conduct a re-run election in 18 local government areas of the state within 90 days, emphasizing that it does not mean that the office of the governor is vacant, as the Tribunal also confirmed Udom Emmanuel as Governor.
The information boss stated that the Electoral Act specifically provides that in such a situation as in the state, the Governor remains in office until he exhausts all appeal windows available to him, adding that the Peoples Democratic Party has indicated its intention to appeal the judgment of the Tribunal.
Umanah further described as mere mischief and ignorance of the tribunal’s verdict, for any person, newspaper, organization or body to ascribe an appellation of an acting Governor on Udom Emmanuel.
