Contrary to falsehood making the rounds on the recent payment of compensations to owners of buildings and structures affected by the reconstruction of roads and storm water in Eket, Akwa Ibom State, Commissioner for Information and Communications, Aniekan Umanah says the exercise followed due process.
Speaking in his office, the Commissioner explained that the State government conducted full inspection survey and valuation report, which captured all buildings and economic trees affected by the urban renewal project.
According to him, the actual payment of compensation was handled by an agency different from the company that handled the valuation. He added that it was done to ensure transparency, as well as checks and balances in the compensation payment process.
Umanah emphasised that beneficiaries were paid what was due to them under the supervision of appropriate government departments. He challenged those alleging underhand dealings in the payment to produce valid proof. The commissioner advised members of the public to be wary of people who try to play politics, even with the good intention of Governor Udom Emmanuel to facilitate development in every part of the State.
