At least 18 people reported killed in train derailment in Taiwan

At least 18 people have been killed and 148 injured in a passenger train derailment in north-east Taiwan.

Railway authorities say they are investigating the accident, which happened in Yilan County yesterday.

A total of 366 people were on the train travelling between Taipei and the eastern county of Taitung when all eight of its carriages derailed.

ELSEWHERE – Israeli forces have arrested the Palestinian governor of Jerusalem Adnan Gheith for unspecified offences he allegedly committed in the occupied West Bank.

According to the Palestine Liberation Organization, Gheith was taken to the Ofer Israeli military court, where he is being detained ahead of a hearing that will take place within four days.
