Two private member bills, Akwa Ibom State College of Nursing and Midwifery Establishment Bill, 2018 and the Akwa Ibom State Urban and Regional Planning bill, 2018 have scaled through second reading on the floor of the State House of Assembly.
The College of Nursing and Midwifery bill titled, ‘A bill for a law to establish a College of Nursing and Midwifery to provide a foundation for general education for nurses, Midwives and future specializations and for other purposes connected therewith’ is sponsored by the member representing Abak State Constituency, Friday Iwok.
Leading debate on the general principles and objectives of the bill, Iwok explained that the bill seeks among other things to ensure there are qualified nurses and Midwives capable of providing both qualitative and quantitative nursing services to individuals and communities in the state.
Reacting, Speaker of the House, Onofiok Luke committed the two bills to relevant House Committees for in-depth study and for further report on the
