Consumers assured of adequate protection of basic rights as world marks 2017 Consumer Rights day today

As the world marks the 2017 Consumer Rights day today with the theme “Building a Digital world consumers can trust” consumers have been assured of adequate protection of their basic rights devoid of any market abuse and social injustices.

The assistant Director Consumers protection Council-CPC in Akwa Ibom State Henry Nwokike who gave the assurance when he spoke with planet news said the aim of the celebration is to raise awareness of the consumer’s rights as it is impossible to short change a population that is aware of their rights.

While however calling on consumers to live up to their responsibilities by ensuring that goods purchased at all times have their shelve lives which is the date of manufacturing, expiration amongst others, Nwokike  stressed that consumers cannot ask for their rights when they relinquish their responsibilities to subtle producers and service providers.

Our correspondent Jane Uwa reports that the assistant Director of CPC called on all consumers to always report to the Council cases they feel their rights have been infringed upon as measures will be taken to address the situation.
