Relief materials, including foodstuffs and toiletries worth thousands of naira- were presented to Internally Displaced Persons currently putting up at Saint Joseph’s Primary School, Iwukem in Etim Ekpo local government area of Akwa Ibom State by the member representing Abak-Ika-Etim Ekpo federal constituency in the House of Representative, Emmauel Ekon.
Speaking shortly after presenting the relief materials to the people who were displaced following continuous cult activities in parts of Etim Ekpo and Ukanafun local government areas, EKON said it was an unfortunate incident and promised that the government will ensure that peace returns to the troubled area as he has forwarded the petition written by the affected communities to the appropriate authorities.
Also speaking, the village Head of Iwukem, the host community, Chief Friday Uyo-Ekpe, who listed the villages affected in the cult crisis in Etim Ekpo, said his village has accepted the IDPs as brothers and sisters.
Some of the displaced persons, who spoke, thanked Emmanuel Ekon for the gesture and prayed for God’s blessing on him.
According to report, no fewer than five women have so far given birth at the IDP Camp in Iwukem, Etim Ekpo Local Government Area.
