The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Audu Ogbeh, says Nigeria will stop rice importation by end of the year.
Ogbeh who spoke in Ado Ekiti during a visit to the Afe Babalola University’s farm in Ado-Ekiti said the Federal Government will sign a memorandum of understanding with the university and Ekiti State Government in the two critical sectors.
For a start up, he promised the University 20 tonnes of rice seedlings in the next planting season to boost rice production.
Also addressing recent attacks by suspected Fulani herdsmen in parts of the country, Ogbeh said that the federal government is looking at ways to putting an end to the attacks.
He said delegates at the ECOWAS meeting will discuss on grazing laws and the need to set up ranches to end the menace.
