The Federal Inland Revenue Service- FIRS has expressed displeasure at the suggestions from certain quarters that tax laws should be reviewed in Nigeria.
Acting Chairman of the service, Babatunde Fowler, who made the disclosure during an interactive meeting with members of the Chartered Institute of taxation of Nigeria -CITN in Abuja, informed Nigerians that oil revenues are gone forever; as the country can no longer continue to rely on revenues from oil for our budgetary allocations.
According to him, it is also imperative that the three tiers of government also comes to terms with the fact that what is left for the Nigeria now is to rely on revenues from taxation, adding that the revenue service will ensure that organisations or individuals have no option but to pay tax to the government.
Fowler pledged that he would use his office to ensure that the CITN delegation led by Dr. Olateju Somorin and FIRS would join forces to put in place a working committee that would assist both organisations to clear any outstanding issues between them.
