The wife of Akwa Ibom Governor, Mrs. Martha Udom Emmanuel, has called on women in the state to live up to the responsibility of motherhood for the progress and development of the state and nation.
Mrs. Emmanuel, who made the call during the 2015 National Women Convention of the Mount Zion Lighthouse Full Gospel Church, Uyo, charged the women to continually pray for the sustenance of the spiritual rebirth of Akwa Ibom State as championed by the State Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel.
Represented by Wife of the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Technical Matters and Due Process, Deaconess Janet Ufot Ebong, the Governor’s Wife charged the women to play the role of motherhood well, maintaining that it was the only way the envisaged peaceful, developed and civilized society can be achieved.
Mrs. Emmanuel, who said the theme of the convention, God of Covenant Remember Us, was apt, appealed to the women to not only make godliness the signpost of their homes but a lifestyle worthy of emulation by the younger generation they are raising.
The wife of the State Governor maintained that if the fear of God thrives in homes, particularly from mothers, the state will have youths who will not take to vices but work to actualize the goals and visions of their forebears.
She said the Udom Emmanuel’s administration has laudable programmes for women of the state, stressing that the women should fervent in their commitment, support, encouragement and prayers for government at all level.
Speaking, the National Women President of the church, Area Deaconess Nkoyo Effiom, thanked the Governor’s Wife for her thoughtfulness, kind donation and gestures toward the women, adding that “for coming to share in our joy, it shows that our dear First Lady is a follower of Christ. Her exemplary lifestyle has become unparallel. We thank her so much.”
In her sermons, Bishop Esther Cobham, who took her teachings from Genesis Chapter 9: 1-4, said that “Women should not only be lovers of good but doers of good for the covenant of God to be fulfilled.”
She charged the womenfolk to exhibit godliness in all they do, adding that God has embedded so many qualities in the lives of women for the betterment of the state and nation.
