Akwa Ibom State Governor, Udom Emmanuel has flagged off the 4th phase of the Enumeration Area Demarcation exercise for the South-South zone in Ikot Ekpene local government area.
The Governor, who was represented by his Deputy, Moses Ekpo, described the choice of Ikot Ekpene as well placed, considering her significance in the history of local government system in Nigeria and lauded the National Population Commission for selecting Akwa Ibom State for the exercise in the South for the 3rd time and assured of government’s support for the success of the program.
The Federal Commissioner of the National Population Commission, Benedict Ukpong in his address, commended Governor Emmanuel’s concerns for population matters in the State, especially in the successes recorded in the previous phases of the exercise in Oron and Nsit Ibom Local Government Areas.
He assured that the exercise will deploy Satellite Imagery and Personal Digital Assistant technologies as well as the Global Positioning System to guarantee excellent coverage and accuracy.
On his part, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Political, Legislative Affairs and Water Resources, Barrister Ekong Sampson, urged the people of the State to support government programmes and charged the people of Ikot Ekpene to shun needless apathy and mainstream the driving of the exercise and a range of other civic responsibilities such as voter registration, national identity and others, reiterating the need to allow policy to drive politics.
