The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency – NDLEA, Akwa Ibom Command, says it has arrested 37 suspected drug offenders between January and March.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Maria Ilugbuhi, who disclosed this while speaking with PLANET NEWS in Uyo, the state capital gave a breakdown of the apprehended drug suspects to include 32 male and five female suspects.
She added that the command made seizures of narcotic drugs of various types at the estimated weight of 47.76 kilogramme while the suspects have been charged to court with two of them convicted so far.
She said that the agency was working very hard to reduce illicit drugs use and trade in the state, advising the people, especially the youths, who are vulnerable to drugs use to desist from the vice while calling on the victims to take advantage of the services provided at drugs rehabilitation centres in different parts of the state for drugs victims.
Our correspondent Anthony |Esin reports that the NDLEA spokesperson urged members of the public to endeavour to provide the agency with useful information on drug dealers and users for prompt action to ensure the state is rid of the menace.
