Nigeria misses out on gold medals in football at All Africa Games

Team Nigeria hopes of a gold medal in the football event of the on-going All Africa Games in Brazaville Congo was yesterday dashed after both the Dream Team and the Super Falcons failed to grab a final place ticket in the semi-finals.

The Dream Team lost 2-1 to Burkina Fasso who progressed to the last four as a lucky side in a drawing of lots with Sudan,  while Senegal ousted hosts Congo in the other semi-final tie, to set up an all Fraco-West African final.

In the female wing, the Super Falcons could not match rival Cameroon in a 3-1 loss just as Ghana overcame Ivory Coast to progress to the final.

However, Nigeria will now feature in a third place match for Bronze when the Falcons file out against their Ivorian counterparts and the Dream team play against Congo.

Meanwhile, Team Nigeria climbs to fifth at the games as Athletics added three more Gold medals in Women Hurdles, Relay and javelin events to take the overall tally to 16 Gold medals at the end of yesterday.

Egypt remains runaway leader on the medals table with 56 Gold medals, followed by South Africa with 38. Algeria is third with 30 and fellow North African country, Tunisia leapfrogs Nigeria into fourth place with 17 Gold medals

In the meantime, action resumes today In Athletics and other Sports as the games begin to near its closing ceremony on the 19th of this month.
