Nigeria has qualified for the quarter-finals of the ongoing 2015 Afrobasket Women Championship in Yaounde, Cameroon after the D’Tigress last night beat Algeria 79-49 in their fifth and last Group B.
The girls started the tournament with a 57-51 defeat to Angola but went on to win the rest of their group matches, beating Egypt 97-68, Guinea 100-47 and Senegal 75-64.
Adaora Elonu was the top performer against the North Africans, after scoring15 points, had three rebounds, seven steals and +16 efficiency to make D’Tigress the highest scoring side so far, having scored 402 points and conceded 285.
The team will now face Mozambique tomorrow in the last eight for a place in the semis which bounces off on Friday ahead of the final game of the tournament coming up on Saturday.
Meanwhile, in other quarter-finals fixtures, Angola will face Gabon; Egypt battles host Camerron and Senegal has a West African score to settle against Mali.
