Nigeria qualifies for international table tennis perfect 2016 in Malaysia

Nigeria will feature in the International Table Tennis Federation Perfect 2016 World Team Championship in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

According to the ITTF, Nigeria qualified for the event after winning Gold and Silver at the just-concluded All Africa Games in Congo Brazaville.

Aruna Quadri, Segun Toriola, and Ojo Onaolapo made the Men’s team, while Funke Oshonaike, Cecilia Out-Akpan, Offiong Edem and Rashidat Ogundele are in the Women Team.

The competition which comes up every two years will feature teams from over 120 Countries competing in the five day tournament serving off in April 2016.


President Mohammadu Buhari has congratulated Team Nigeria for finishing second at the overall medals table of the just concluded All Africa Games in Brazaville Congo.

In a statement issued by the Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, Buhari expressed appreciation for the Team’s performance, extolling their zeal and determination.

He promised a befitting welcome ceremony and assured that his administration would accord priority to Sports, in addition to boosting the morale of the Players and enhancing training for future competitions.

Nigeria leapfrogged Algeria and South Africa to finish second place behind winners Egypt, with 47 Gold, 55 Silver and 42 Bronze medals, after posting a strong end campaign with Power lifters and Wrestlers sweeping the last set of medals and even setting World Records in the Process.
