Nigerians have condemned the statement credited to President Muhammadu Buhari that the World Bank should focus their financial investment in the Northern part of the country.
This followed the statement by the President of the World Bank Group, Jim Yong Kim, that the bank had concentrated on the northern region of Nigeria in line with President Muhammadu Buhari’s request.
Speaking in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital, some residents who described the statement as unpatriotic and capable of causing division in the country, said while the North needs attention due to the devastation caused by the Boko Haram insurgency, other parts of the country equally needs the assistance from the World Bank.
Our correspondent, Bassey Ibiatisuho reports that they also called on the federal government to channel the assistance received from other countries and donor agencies as well as the looted funds recovered into meaningful development in critical sectors of the economy that will benefit all Nigerians.
Recall that at the 22nd Annual Conference of the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria in Abuja, President Muhammadu Buhari had stated that the Federal Government was using part of the recovered stolen funds to finance the 2017 budget.
