Parents, caregivers encouraged to present wards for routine immunization against childhood killer diseases

Parents and caregivers have been encouraged to always present their wards for routine immunization to help boost their immune system against childhood killer diseases and to ensure a polio free Nigeria.

The Director, Primary Health Care, Uyo Local Government Area, Grace Uyoe, who gave this advice while speaking with Planet News, stressed the need for children to be immunized, saying it is free and safe and will help in the total eradication of polio Melitis in the country and called on mothers who missed the immunization plus days which ended on Tuesday March 28th, to visit the nearest health center with their wards.

According to Uyoe, parents usually mistake a child’s reaction to vaccines for a serious health issue and called on parents to disabuse their minds from such, saying that the slight change in the child’s body temperature will go off in no time and that it should not discourage parents from presenting their children for future immunizations.

Our correspondent Oto-Obong Billy reports that the director, while also appealing to owners of schools and churches to corporate with the health workers who go round to immunize children by allowing them access to the kids, announced that the second round of the National Immunization Plus Days is scheduled for 22nd to 25th of April this year.
