PDP calls for suspension of NNPC Group Managing Director, Maikanti Baru over allegation of corruption

The Peoples Democratic Party-PDP has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to suspend the Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, Maikanti Baru over the allegation of corruption in the corporation and handed over to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission-EFCC for investigation and prosecution.

National Publicity Secretary of the party, Dayo Adeyeye, stated this at the party’s headquarters in Abuja

The party urged the President to treat Baru and others involved in the scandal the same way he treated the former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki and many others involved in the $2 billion arms purchase scandal perpetrated during the last administration.
Expressing shock at the President Buhari’s silence since the humongous scandal broke out, the PDP said there are several other acts of illegality being perpetrated by officials close to the President but which are being swept under the carpet.

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Labour Congress-NLC and a human rights advocacy group, Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project-SERAP have said Nigerians should have an opportunity to know the facts of the issues raised by the minister, demanding that Baru should be immediately suspended and referred to anti-corruption agencies for probe and possible prosecution.
