Political groups urge APC delegates to shun money politics

Ahead of the September 19 primary of the All Progressives Congress, 10 political groups have urged delegates to shun money politics and ensure that the best aspirant emerges as the party’s standard bearer.

The groups – Buhari Friends Network, Buhari Vanguard, Grassroots Leadership Forum and the Northern Elders Forum, among others, noted that if the party was able to get the right candidate, the victory of the APC in the governorship election was assured.

The groups, in a joint statement on Thursday, signed by its spokesperson, Victor Ebiegberi, also advised the leadership of the party to provide a level playing field for aspirants during the primary to avoid rancour that could polarise the party.

The groups particularly lauded the entry of one of the founding members of the APC, Mr. Preye Aganaba, into the governorship race, describing him as a tested, trusted and credible personality in public administration.

They urged the delegates to be conscientious and support the party leader for his roles in the formation of the party, describing him as “a quintessential change agent”.

The joint statement said, “Mr. Preye Aganaba worked tirelessly together with other leaders of the party to ensure the growth of the party despite hostilities.

“We urge all delegates to shun money politics by those whose only interest is to get power by all means and vote for the right candidate.”

The groups asked delegates not to rest on their oars towards electing a credible candidate that could move the state to the next level through positive and productive leadership.
