Presidency reacts to Obasanjo’s endorsesment of Atiku Abubakar

Former President, Olusegun Obasanjo has endorsed the presidential ambition of his former deputy and the people’s Democratic Party-PDP presidential hopeful, Atiku Abubakar.

Obasanjo who addressed journalists after a closed door meeting with Atiku in Abeokuta, Ogun state, declared that Atiku will defeat the incumbent President, Muhammadu Buhari in 2019, adding that the PDP Presidential hopeful has the capacity to perform better.

According to him, he believes that the former vice president has ‘re-discovered and re-positioned himself’ and is now good enough to enjoy his support in the next election. The Former President further stressed that he has forgiven Atiku wholeheartedly.

Meanwhile, The Presidency says it was not surprised by former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s endorsement of the Peoples Democratic Party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, boosting that both Obasanjo and Atiku will lose the 2019 presidential election to President Muhammadu Buhari.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, who made the Presidency’s position known in a statement made available to journalists, said the President was not in any way surprised about what he described as Obasanjo’s predictable “U-turn and somersault” on Atiku.

He said Obasanjo’s statement betrayed a lack of understanding of today’s politics which he claimed is about good governance.

The presidential spokesman said Buhari would not be distracted by the endorsement but would continue with his anti-corruption fight and other laudable projects.
