President Muhammadu Buhari is today conferring honors on the heroes of the June 12, 1993, presidential election at a ceremony at the presidential villa in Abuja.
The post-humous investiture is in honor of the winner of the annulled June 12, 1993 presidential election, Moshood Abiola, as the Grand Commander of the Federal Republic.
Also to be honored post-humously with the Grand Commander of the Order Niger is the late human rights activist, Gani Fawehinmi, alongside Abiola’s running mate, Babagana Kingibe.
Meanwhile the Chairman of the defunct National Electoral Commission that conducted the poll, Professor Humphrey Nwosu, has reportedly written to excuse himself from the event.
He, however, commended Buhari for recognizing June 12 as Nigeria’s Democracy Day and for honoring the memory of Chief MKO Abiola, the presumed winner of the election.
