Qua Iboe Power Plant Limited- QIPPL, the promoter of the Qua Iboe Power Plant has signed a community partnership agreement with Akwa Ibom State government and project impacted communities in the State to build a 570 megawatts power plant and a 58-kilometer transmission line which will transverse 6 Local Government Areas in the state.
Speaking during the event at the Governor’s office, Government house, Uyo, the Managing Director and Chief Executive officer of QIPP, Brian Herlihy said the power plant is expected to cost 1.1 billion dollars, adding that the construction of the project which will commence later in the year will generate employment for the people of the state.
In his remarks, Governor Udom Emmanuel, who noted that the signing of the MOU was one of the solutions that will solve the country’s gas challenges, stressed that he was fulfilling his initial promise to involve his government actively in the process. He further assured the company of government’s support and commitment to the realization of the goal.
On their parts, the representatives of the host communities Chief Okudinyang Okudinyan, of Ibeno, Pastor Bassey Umoh of Eket community respectively said the project was strategic and timely, adding that it is a welcome development.
Our correspondent Jane Uwa reports that the benefiting communities are Ibeno, where the power plant is located, Eket, Esit-Eket, Mkpat-Enin, Onna and Ikot Abasi Local Government Areas of the State.
