Syrian President Bashar al-Assad flew into Moscow yesterday for a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, in his first trip abroad since start of the war in 2011.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the leaders discussed their joint military campaign against rebels in Syria.
At the meeting Putin said he was hopeful that a solution may be reached for the war in Syria, where Russia has been carrying out air strikes since the end of September.
According to Putin, Russia was ready to support Syria not only militarily but politically as well, adding that the decision for a long term solution could only be made by the Syrian people.
