UK’s International Trade Secretary Liam Fox pulls out of planned investment conference

The UK’s International Trade Secretary Liam Fox has pulled out of attending an investment conference in Saudi Arabia next week. It comes amid allegations the country was behind the killing of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

Khashoggi has not been seen since entering the Saudi consulate in Istanbul on 2nd October, where Turkish officials allege he was killed. Saudi Arabia, has however denied the killing.

ELSEWHERE – A senior US commander Scott Miller has narrowly escaped a gun attack in which top Afghan security officials were killed.

The gunman, reported to be acting as a bodyguard, opened fire as officials left a meeting in Kandahar province. Reports say Provincial police chief General Abdul Raziq died, as did the head of the NDS intelligence service, while the Kandahar governor was badly wounded.
