UN Secretary General urges Nigeria governors to use Sustainable Development Goals

The United Nations-UN Secretary General, Ban Ki-Moon, has urged state governors in Nigeria to use the Sustainable Development Goals, which are billed to be adopted by world leaders at a UN Summit in September, as the basis for the governance in Nigeria’s new era of leadership.

Ban Ki-Moon, who is on a 2-day working visit to Nigeria, said Nigeria occupies a central place in the comity of nations and the government at the state level play a crucial role in realising the developmental aspirations of the people.

He said Nigeria is on the right path despite its many challenges, top among which is security and insurgency, adding that the United Nations is set to work with Nigeria to ensure sustainability of the social, economic and developmental efforts of Nigeria

The UN Secretary General said state governments are crucial to this new era of sustainability which Nigeria cannot afford to take for granted.

The meeting is a dialogue between the state governors and the United Nations as a body to seek out ways of collaboration for social and economic developments that hold human rights in perspective.
