Akwa Ibom State government has again emphasized the need to construct durable roads that can stand the test of time, rather than embarking on a shabby work for the reason of scoring cheap political points.
This was made known by the Commissioner for Works, Ephraim Inyangeyen when he inspected ongoing construction at Youth Avenue, Mbiabong Etoi, Uyo that was hitherto reported that the state government had stopped the NDDC from carrying out construction work at the site.
Inyangeyen who was fielding questions from journalists, said government had already earmarked youth Avenue for construction before the NDDC and its inexperienced contractors stepped in, hence government’s timely intervention. He therefore called on the NDDC to always ensure that any project they embark upon in the state are of acceptable standards.
The commissioner, who stressed that government’s intention is to ensure that roads in the state are of good quality, said the ministry is supervising the project and that so far, he is not disappointed with the level of work going on.
Our senior correspondent, Oto-Obong Billy reports that the commissioner had earlier inspected internal road construction at the college of Education Afaha Nsit where he tasked the contractors to do their best and deliver quality roads on record time.
