Akwa Ibom State Police Command has announced a ban on rally, procession and demonstration in Uyo, the state capital and environs today following conflicting protest arrangement by groups which it noted might result in breach of public order.
The state’s police command in a press statement made available to journalists and signed by the Public Relations officer, DSP Chukwu Ikechukwu, said it received a letter from a law firm to carry out a protest in Uyo and another letter from an organization requesting for Police permission to carry out a demonstration on the same date, time and location.
It further stated that, considering the contrast intention of the two groups and the threat it pose to the security and safety of the people of the state, it becomes imperative that the Police Command, step in promptly to avert a total breakdown of law and order.
The police enjoined people of the state to go about their lawful activities and business assuring that the Command has made adequate arrangement for their peace and security while stating that that any person or group of persons bent at causing the breach of peace or break down of law and order in the state will be dealt with in accordance with the law.
