ASUU insists on comprehensive strike action over non-implementation of agreement

The Chairman of Academic Staff Union of Universities-ASUU, University of Uyo branch, Dr. Daniel Udo has insisted that the strike embarked upon by the union on Monday remains total and comprehensive despite the decision by organized labour suspend its own strike.

Udo who spoke with Planet News through a phone interview stated that ASUU strike was independent of the planned strike by the organized labour and added that until their demands are met by the federal government the lecturers would not return to work.

He added that ASUU was protesting non-implementation of an agreement it entered into with the Federal Government in 2009 and non-implementation of a Memorandum of Action in 2017, saying that before declaring the strike, the union had written several letters to the Federal Government in the last two years with no headway.
