Stakeholders under the people’s Democratic Party-PDP in Urueoffong/Oruko Local Government Area have called on the leader of the party in the state Governor Udom Emmanuel and the state party chairman Obong Paul Ekpo to cancel the result of the chairmanship primaries conducted in the area.
In a release signed by eight chairmanship aspirants Doctor Francis Iseghe, Ntanta Okpo, Doctor Godswill Ekpo, Prince Victor Enyenighi and made available to planet news, the people warned against the imposition of candidates. According to them, the release became necessary after they staged a walk out from Uyo township stadium and led a peaceful protest to the government house on what they termed infringement of votes entrusted on adhoc delegates by wards and their inability to assess the delegate list.
The aspirants also including Nkereuwem Eyongekere, Okon Bassey, Etim Okwong essang and Ketty Nduonofit, frowned at the alleged high level of conspiracy and compromise by the party official and the returning official and reminded the governor of his riot act during his meeting with them on the 14th of September at the governor’s banquet hall that any aspirant who engaged in thuggery will be automatically disqualified.
They claimed that Matthew Efurmbru who was announced winner, erred by bringing hooligans and thugs into the venue of the primaries thereby causing mayhem, carting away of ballot boxes and random shooting which had wounded many including one Asuquo Edet from Oyoku Ibighi ward 1 and also the beating up of the chapter chairman Okpo Edeke and the woman leader Kelvin Bassey.
The aspirants who added that Efurmbru masterminded the delegates list and 30 adhoc delegates in his favour, regretted the actions of the member representing urueoffong oruko in the state house of assembly Edet Archibong for inter party politics and undue interference in PDP matters in the area.
