U.S. President Donald Trump has said that he believes Russian President, Vladmir Putin’s denials of Russian involvement in the manipulation of the 2016 U.S presidential election.
Speaking at a news conference in Vietnamese capital, Trump was asked about his comments that he believed Putin’s reassurances given by the Russian president on the sidelines of Saturday’s Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in Vietnam.
He explained that he suggested Putin was being sincere in his denials that Moscow engaged in the election meddling.
The U.S President maintained that it would be appropriate for his country to foster friendliness with Russia, saying that such development will be good for America and the world.
Meanwhile, the comment has been criticized by American Senator John McCain who said in a tweet that there was “nothing America First about Trump taking Putin’s word over the US intelligence community.
