The need to provide suitable facilities and equipment as well as provide adequate specialized workforce for safe anesthesia care in all teaching and general hospitals in the country has been advocated.
Speaking with PLANET NEWS, a medical specialist, Doctor Mark Edubio, who observed that access to safe anesthesia is a global issue, stressed the need for government and medical services providers to prioritize the practice as an essential aspect of healthcare delivery.
Our correspondent Anthony Esin reports that Doctor Edubio, who is the Head of Department, Anesthesia and Intensive Care Unit, University of Uyo Teaching Hospital also called for building of a strong pharmacological base in the hospitals to complement services of anesthesia providers.
The medical expert described anesthesia as an important part of surgery and other medical operations as it enables patients to undergo an operation safely without experiencing distress and pain.
