As Nigeria joins the rest of the world to mark the 2018 International Day of Peace today, people have been urged to see peace as a panacea for development and growth, and shun all tendencies capable of breeding societal upheavals.
A former Commissioner in the state, Professor Etok Ekanem who stated this while speaking with our correspondent Anthony Esin, said the commemoration is particularly significant to Nigerians considering the forthcoming general elections as it behooves on all players in the process to give peace a chance.
While describing a peaceful society as one where there is justice and equality for everyone, Professor Ekanem maintained that for there to be peace, the relevant authorities must ensure there is social justice for all.
The theme for the 2018 International Day of Peace is “The Right to Peace – adopted from The Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
