Pupils in forty-one public schools in Ikot Abasi Local Government Area of the state are to receive exercise books donated by the Managing Director of Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, Obong Nsima Ekere as the new school year resumes.
Flagging off the distribution of the writing materials, the immediate past President of National Council of Women Societies, NCWS, Ikot Abasi Chapter, Uduak Enobong-Uffot said the NDDC boss who is from the area decided to donate the items to the pupils as an encouragement for them to go to school, adding that it was in consonance with the free and compulsory education programme of the state government.
Uduak Uffot, a former first lady of the local government area, also used the opportunity to charge the children to shun social vices which she noted were capable of ruining their dreams to become prominent personalities in the society in future.
In their separate reactions, Head Teacher of Methodist Central School – Ette, as well as a primary six pupil in the school, Blessing Charles Effiong lauded Ekere for the gesture while urging him to do more.
Our correspondent Anthony Esin reports that among the twenty schools visited so far for the books distribution include Qua Iboe Church School, Iko Town; Methodist primary School, Ikwa/Ikataha; QIC Group School, Ikot Usoh; QIC Central School, Ikot Osudu; Community Primary School, Nduk; SS Peter and Paul, Eseme and Holy Child Convent School, Eseme all in Ikot Abasi Local Government Area.
