New Akwa Ibom State police commissioner, promises best practices of policing

The newly deployed Commissioner of Police, Akwa Ibom State Command, John Bassey Abang, has pledged to protect fundamental human rights of citizens in all police operations, while stating that the police will provide a level playing ground for all political parties taking part in the forthcoming elections in the state.

The new CP who stated this in his maiden press briefing held at the state police headquarters, Ikot Akpan Abia, maintained that, under his watch, all parts of the state will adequately be policed in line with global best practices.

Our correspondent Anthony Esin reports that Abang further vowed to consolidate on the progress made in quelling the violence in Etim Ekpo and ukanafun, while calling for continued cooperation of the people.

The new Commissioner of Police who takes over from Adeyemi Ogujemilusi, now Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 6, is the 24th commissioner of police in the state. Abang hails from Boki Local Government Area in Cross River State.
