The Nigeria Immigration Service, Akwa Ibom State Command has said that the service has done everything within its capacity to ensure foreigners on asylum in various refugee camps in the state meet laid down legal procedures and requirements.
The State Comptroller of the NIS, Livingstone Amadi who stated this in a chat with PLANET NEWS, said the service got a tip-off about influx of foreigners who illegally settled in parts of the state and immediately swung into action to reduce the menace.
He said the state has provided three camps for harboring of foreigners who are properly registered, while noting that the crisis in parts of Cameroon has caused many citizens of the country to seek refuge in Nigeria.
Our correspondent Anthony Esin reports that the state NIS boss said the command has ensured its officers and men are strategically stationed in all border control posts to prevent further influx of illegal foreign immigrants into the state.
