The Nigerian Immigration Service – NIS, Akwa Ibom State Command says it has apprehended and prosecuted two foreigners who illegally entered the country and fraudulently attempted to acquire Nigerian passports, with a pledge to ensure its activities are beefed up along the borderlines to ensure all undocumented immigrants within the state are flushed out.
The Controller in charge of Akwa Ibom State Command of the Service, Livingstone Amadi, disclosed this in an exclusive chat with PLANET NEWS in Uyo the state capital.
While stating that the culprits who hailed from Cameroon were accordingly charged to court for prosecution, Amadi added that the command has on several occasions rescued vulnerable Nigerians from traffickers, maintaining that the operations will not be relaxed until the desired effect is achieved.
Our correspondent Anthony Esin reports that the Immigration boss while stating that the state has the longest coastline in the country with its attendant challenges said the command has ensured presence of its officers at strategic locations for effective patrol of the areas.
The NIS state Controller appealed to members of the public, especially those residing in the border enclaves to cooperate with the men and officers of the Nigeria Immigration Service by providing them with useful information about the activities of such illegal residents who make entry into the country without going through the due process.
