Following the commencement of the mandatory use of National Identity Number – NIN this January by the National Identity Management Commission – NIMC, the commission is insisting that people yet to register to collect their NIN slips do so, while further listing the features of its permanent identity cards, when successfully collected.
Speaking with Planet News, NIMC’s Senior Manager Customer Care Services, Iniobong Ekpo, expressed concern for those yet to secure the cards, saying the implementation of the compulsory use of NIN, though still dragging in some quarters, will be total in no time.
According to Ekpo, the permanent identity cards have special banking features where the holder can access money using the card without having to open a bank account with any bank.
He however noted that, for security purposes, once the card is misplaced, it is advisable that the holder immediately visits the nearest NIMC office for rectification.
