People have continuously lamented Government’s negligence in the health sector and the adverse effect on patients who are sometimes denied access to medical facilities due to incessant strike actions by medical workers as well as poor or insufficient facilities and equipment.
Our Senior Correspondent Oto-Obong Billy who visited the University of Uyo Teaching hospital, to monitor activities there, reports that most offices and wards were under lock and key while a few patients were found stranded.
One of the visibly angry patients who came for an appointment, decried the unfair treatment meted out to her and other helpless patients, saying the reasons for the strike action should be looked into.
While attributing the many lose of lives being witnessed in hospitals to poor or no facilities and equipment to work with, the she called on the Federal government to walk the talk and keep to their promise of bringing positive change to the country.
Other patients who were spoted at the hospital, expressed their disappointment over the development and wondered why government would not adhere to the demands of health workers ao as to avoid preventable sicknesses and deaths.
The Joint Health Sector Union had on Wednesday last week declared a nationwide strike which has already taken a toll on Federal Government owned hospitals.
