People advised to monitor and control their tobacco use

People have been advised to monitor and control their tobacco use, blood pressure, high cholesterol and diabetes in order to reduce the risk of coming down with an enlarged heart condition.

A cardiologist with the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital, Doctor Bassey Effiong who gave the advice when he spoke with planet news said Enlarged heart condition which occurs when diameter of the heart is more than half of the diameter of the rib cage is usually caused by heart rhythm abnormalities, thyroid disease and infection of the heart muscles amongst others.

Our correspondent, Jane Uwa reports that the Doctor while listing the symptoms of enlarged heart condition to include shortness of breath, abnormal heart rhythm and swelling among others, however noted that the treatment of the condition depends on its cause.
