Speaker of Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, speaks on invitation by IGP Idris

Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Barrister Onofiok Luke has reacted to the recent invitation to Abuja by the Nigeria police, stating that Akwa Ibom people are law abiding and will resist all forms of politically motivated intimidation, which he says is capable of destroying the ideals of a democratically run government.

Addressing house of Assembly Correspondents after the day’s Plenary, the Speaker, who was one of the key subjects invited, narrated the events at the invitation in Abuja, and summed the entire encounter up as frivolous.

According to Barrister Luke, the speed at which the presidency minuted on the invitation only shows the gains the country would make if such urgency is applied in resolving other gray areas of deficiency in the country’s administration of governance.

Recall that the IGP, Ibrahim Idris, had summoned some People’s Democratic Party leaders in Akwa Ibom state to Abuja over incidences which led to alleged destruction of some campaign materials of President Muhammadu Buhari’s reelection bid.

Our House of Assembly correspondent, Saviour Robert reports that according to the speaker, other people invited were Idongesit Nkanga, the campaign coordinator of the reelection bid of Governor Udom Emmanuel, chairman of PDP in the state, Paul Ekpo; commissioner for environment, Iniobong Essien; and senior special assistant to the governor on security, Fubara Duke.
